Hip-hop gospel artist Suffix says he is ready to show the world what Malawi music entails during his sojourn in Germany.

The artist is set to perform tonight at the Millerntor Gallery Annual Festival organised by Viva Con Agua in Hamburg, Germany.

Suffix is expected to share the stage with Kenyan activist-cum-hip-hop artist Octopizzo, who is United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) brand ambassador.

In an interview from Germany, the artist said the event will help in creating a positive impression for the Malawian arts industry as a whole.

“This is not just my opportunity, but the opportunity to showcase the talent that Malawi has. This opportunity has the potential to open doors for others as well,” he said.

Suffix: This is not just my opportunity

Suffix said it is high time people started exploring how art can be exported to contribute to the country’s forex.

“Art can indeed contribute to the economic development of our country because the money made abroad is spent in Malawi, bringing forex in return,” he said.

The event aims at using art to create awareness on the need for people to have access to clean water. It will start with a panel discussion in the afternoon followed by performances in the evening.

Meanwhile, Suffix has indicated that he will open his set with the song Tayaka, which features Kelvin Sings, KBG, Progain and Liwu starting from 7pm. The Viva Con Agua Dance For Wash song, which is a theme song for the campaign, will also be performed.

The rapper works with Ketase, a creative agency that specialises in communications, consultancy, marketing and projects who were, together with Nyali Music, hired to run a regional campaign for Viva Con Agua in creating awareness and improving sanitation and hygiene in secondary schools, among others.

In a separate interview, one of the leading partners at Ketase Madalitso HanjaHanja said he is thrilled with the opportunity.

He: “It’s our time to show, as a country, that we are able to do great things that can be noticed at international level. For us to win the contract, we outperformed so many countries and we have been able to implement a very successful campaign project to the extent of being invited in Germany.

“That leaves us with high expectations for him and Malawi as the campaign itself has been executed with excellence.”

During his career, Suffix has received several recognitions, including the best album of the year in the UMP in 2018 and has appeared at some of the country’s elite festivals such as Sand Festival and Lake of Stars.
